You may remember a time when gay marriage wasn't legal. LGBT Financial was founded just prior to marriage equality being legalized federally in 2015.
We came into being because we saw pressing financial issues that were going unaddressed by the financial services profession at large. Transgender individuals, couples in same-sex relationships, people living with HIV, and our queer elders all had distinct issues that we thought were not being properly addressed.
Now it's a decade later, and although there have been some substantial improvements, many of those issues still remain.
Our primary goal is this: to help LGBTQ+ individuals and allies become as financially resilient and sovereign as is possible in our current financial system.
We accomplish this through an intentional, systematic approach that diagnoses and addresses key areas of your financial life and well being.
It is our hope that by working with us, you are transformed into a more confident, secure, and optimistic version of yourself.
Believe it or not, I haven't always been a finance queen. When I was young everyone was convinced I'd be a scientist - myself included. I have a voracious appetite for knowledge, and I read absolutely everything I could get my hands on.
I was crushed in the 6th grade when I found out that my vision wasn't good enough for me to be an astronaut, but luckily I was distracted from that by middle school band the next year.
Music turned out to be my next big passion. I was particularly drawn towards the theory and composition aspects of music. I loved learning the system and figuring out different ways to express myself within the rules I had learned. I liked it so much that I studied music composition at the University of Utah, graduating in 2014.
My career in financial services started in 2015. I was running a recording studio prior to that and got my insurance license after I decided I wanted a change. (Thanks mom for the recommendation!) My love of learning and tinkering with systems makes me an excellent fit for work in the industry.
I joined my business partner Ryan (who founded LGBT Financial) the following year, and we worked side by side until I bought him out of the biz in 2022.
When I'm not working you can find me making music, dancing, or spending time with my partner Joe (he's the handsome man I'm mackin' on halfway down the home page if you're wondering what he looks like).
